Last evening, I went on a long run at the pristine Sankey Lake with a friend. Sweaty and tired, we walked into a Starbucks. A great friend, good ambience and coffee on the rocks! What more could I ask for?
It was one of those days, when I was feeling particularly content and peaceful. While I was yapping about nothing in particular, I heard that annoying, yet warm ring, of the MeDine app. I had a total of 265 points now. Hmm… My mobile balance, I noticed, was low, so why not use these points to recharge?
I would have Rs.250 credited to my phone balance the next day…pretty simple na?!
However, it got me thinking. Free rewards, for doing absolutely nothing!
So… what’s the catch?
After a lot of contemplating, I realised…that is the point of this app. There is no catch at all!
However, I was still not satisfied with that explanation. After all, nobody is that altruistic, right?
After some research, I learnt that MeDine, is an app dedicated to helping restaurants incentivize their customers, for check ins into partner restaurants, which automatically goes on to help in increasing the restaurant’s publicity. So, they work on negative cash flows? Well, it isn’t that simple either, because the main objective is to create a new market out there, on the principle of helping businesses reward their customers for visiting them.
So, if you come to think about it, all you have to do as an app user, is visit a restaurant, and you are rewarded for it! Absolutely no effort! (well, almost no effort).
I am game, after all, one Point = one Rupee.
Moreover, it feels like Christmas every time I visit a restaurant!
